Iowa jumps ahead with protecting consumer data with its own mini-GDPR

Online security and data theft are increasingly complex problems for everyone, including law enforcement, companies, and individual consumers. The issues of lost data, identity theft, and invasion of privacy seem to grow exponentially every day. As a result, it isn’t just the expected law enforcement agencies—the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), local police, and the sheriff’s department—evaluating claims but also agencies like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). With that backdrop, Iowa recently enacted changes to its privacy statute, making it similar to Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
